MIAMI AFTER DARK | TRUE CRIME AT SEA

We’re building this one for a small crew of 8–12 travellers.

March 17-25, 2027

Big enough to have energy, people to bounce around with and a proper group feel.

Small enough that we can still get into interesting places, change plans without a committee meeting and actually get to know the people we’re travelling with.

This is not a bus-tour situation. It’s a crew.

Think: Miami Vice meets Only Murders in the Building meets grown-up summer camp at sea.

A little glamorous.

A little shady.

Very social.

Good dinners. Weird history. Music. Sun. Cocktails if you want them. Excellent people-watching whether you do or not.

And at least one moment where somebody says:

“There is absolutely no way that actually happened.”

Oh, but it did.

Miami has never exactly been known for good behaviour. Neither has Virgin Voyages.

So naturally, we put them together.

This is eight nights of neon, strange history, excellent food, questionable characters and stories that get progressively better the longer we're away.

We’ll start with three nights in Miami — getting properly into the city instead of treating it like an airport with palm trees — before boarding Scarlet Lady for five adults-only nights at sea.

And because simply going on a cruise felt a little too well behaved, we’re giving the whole thing a true-crime twist. Not murder-tourism from breakfast until bedtime.

More like: follow Miami’s wonderfully shady history, chase a few infamous stories, find the bars and neighbourhoods where things actually happened, and leave plenty of room for sunshine, ship nights and making some stories of our own.

WHY THIS TRIP WORKS

Because it has contrast.

Miami is loud.
Art Deco. Little Havana. Old money. New money. Mob money. Neon glowing after midnight.

Then we board Scarlet Lady.

No kids. No buffets with sad sneeze guards. No formal night requiring a funeral suit.

Instead: great restaurants, live entertainment, ridiculous little surprises, late nights if we want them and absolutely nothing wrong with disappearing to a lounger for three hours.

This isn't eight days of scheduled activities.

It's a trip with a strong plot and room to misbehave around the edges.

THE TRIP RHYTHM

FIRST: GET INTO MIAMI

We’re giving Miami three nights because flying in the day before a cruise and eating at the hotel lobby bar is a tragic waste of Miami.

We’ll use those days to explore the city through the Second Shift lens:

the stories, neighbourhoods, food, characters and slightly questionable history that make Miami much more interesting than South Beach alone.

Expect broad plans rather than a clipboard itinerary — a few things worth building the day around, plus enough free space to wander, swim, shop, nap or chase a detour somebody discovers along the way.

THEN: BOARD SCARLET LADY

Five nights aboard Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady.

This is where the pace changes.

Unpack once.

Eat extremely well.

See a show.

Find the weird little bar.

Sit by the pool.

Go ashore.

Stay aboard.

Change your mind.

Virgin is particularly good for people who want a social cruise without feeling like they've accidentally joined a floating theme park.

THROUGH IT ALL: FOLLOW THE STORY

The true-crime theme gives us something playful to build around without hijacking the vacation.

Miami's history has no shortage of material — organized crime, smugglers, spectacular scams, famous cases and deeply questionable decisions.

We’ll weave some of that into the trip through Side Quests and Detours rather than turning the whole thing into CrimeCon at sea.

Because occasionally the best travel stories start with:

“Okay, you need to hear what happened here…”

WHAT WE'RE IMAGINING

This is still being shaped, and early crew members get a voice in what makes the final cut.
Possibilities include:
Miami after dark
Neon, Art Deco, infamous addresses and one very good night out.
Scarlet Lady
Five adults-only nights with excellent food, entertainment, port days and absolutely no requirement to participate in organized fun before coffee.
Little Havana
Cuban food, music, neighbourhood stories and a completely legitimate reason to order another cafecito.

True Crime Side Quests
The cases, characters and places that deserve more than a passing Google search.

Second Shift Detours
The bars, oddities, local stories and “we have two hours — should we?” ideas that tend to become the best part of the trip.

Nothing here is a locked day-by-day itinerary yet.

That's intentional.

Join early and you get to help shape the adventure.

THIS TRIP IS PROBABLY FOR YOU IF…

You like the idea of travelling with a small group of 8–12 people, not disappearing into a crowd of 40 strangers.

You like travelling with people but still need some breathing room.

You want good food and nightlife without needing every night to become an Olympic drinking event.

You enjoy true crime, strange history or excellent stories.

You'd rather explore a neighbourhood than spend six hours following a tour-guide umbrella.

You appreciate a little luxury but don't need anybody calling you madam.

And you're willing to occasionally say yes to something simply because it sounds like it might make a great story.

YOU MAY WANT TO SKIP THIS ONE IF…

You want every hour planned before you leave Canada.

You hate nightlife, crowds or cities with a bit of chaos to them.

You want a traditional cruise with formal nights, assigned dining and family programming.

Or your idea of travel is strictly resort → lounger → resort → airport.

Nothing wrong with that.

This just isn't that trip.

BRING YOUR BOOKING BUDDY — OR COME SOLO

The starting estimate assumes two people sharing accommodations, both in Miami and aboard Scarlet Lady.

Bring your person, your travel buddy, your favourite couple, or come solo.

However you show up, you’re welcome in the crew.

We won’t find you a roommate. We’re not a college dorm, and frankly, we’re too old for that shit.

If you want your own room or cabin, we’ll price it that way. Solo cabins may also be available if you book early enough.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Estimated from $3,650 CAD per person

Based on double occupancy - including estimated flight from Calgary.

That gives you a realistic starting point for the core trip.

Final pricing will depend on things like exact travel dates, cabin choice, Miami accommodations, flights and which shared experiences the crew decides belong in the finished adventure.

We'll spell all of that out before anybody commits.

No mystery math.

The murder mystery portion is strictly recreational.

WHY GO WITH SECOND SHIFT?

Because you could absolutely book Miami and Virgin yourself.

That's not the hard part.

The fun part is turning those bookings into a trip with a point of view. We’ll build the rhythm, find the Side Quests, sort the logistics, connect the interesting bits and leave enough room for the crew to make the trip their own.

You show up knowing the important stuff is handled — without spending three months with forty browser tabs open trying to determine whether some TikTok restaurant is actually worth crossing Miami for.

INTERESTED?

This is the “tell me more before I make any life choices” stage.

No booking.

No payment.

No accidental commitment to sharing a cabin with Brenda from accounting.

Tell us who's interested, who your booking buddy might be, where you'd be travelling from and anything we'd need to know to decide whether this trip fits.

Join early and help shape the trip.

Once we know you're seriously considering it, we'll walk you through the details personally before you decide whether you're in.
